PORTLAND’S FIRST REPAIR CAFÉ TO BE HELD ON THURSDAY

Free Event Urges Locals to Fix Broken Things Instead of Throwing Them Away

19 JUNE 2013, PORTLAND, OR
Summary
Repair PDX is holding its first official repair café to help Portlanders fix their broken items instead of throwing them out. These are free and festive events, which bring together volunteers who like to fix things with people who need things fixed.

EVENT DETAILS:

Ford Food & Drink (2505 SE 11th Ave)
Thursday, June 20th
6:00 PM to 9:00 PM

By promoting repairs, we want to help reduce the mountains of waste involved in the discarding of broken items, as well as the resources used to create replacement goods unnecessarily.

Repair cafés are also meant to put neighbors in touch with each other in a new way. They strengthen our community by helping people discover that a lot of know-how and practical skills can be found close to home.

Fixing goods can help people be green in another way, “Replacing a broken vacuum or busted food processor can really blow a hole in a working family’s tight budget. This is a direct and impactful way to help a neighbor in need,” said volunteer Noah Heller.
